HC Deb 27 June 1905 vol 148 c236
MR. ERNEST GRAY (West Ham, N.)

To ask the Secretary to the Board of Education whether a local education authority may award to the scholars attending the schools under that authority prizes in money out of the school income, or whether the giving of such prizes would imperil the Parliamentary grant.

(Answered by Sir William Anson.) The giving of prizes in money by the local authority would not imperil the grant. As to whether such expenditure is permissible, is a question for the district auditor, whose decision is subject to revision by the Local Government Board.
