§ MR. CHAELES CRAIG (Antrim, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if the attention of the Lord Chancellor has been called to the conduct of Mr. Higgins, J.P., in attending at and refusing to desist from taking part in a proclaimed meeting at Carrowkeel; and whether he can say if the Lord Chancellor intends to deprive Mr. Higgins of his commission of the peace.
§ MR. WALTER LONGI have referred this Question to the Lord Chancellor. Mr. Higgins has not been prosecuted for or convicted of any offence in connection with this occurrence; and the Lord Chancellor informs me that he has no machinery to institute an inquiry in the matter, nor would it be in accordance with the practice of his Department to attempt to do so.
