HC Deb 26 July 1905 vol 150 c343
MR. LAMBERT (Devonshire, South Molton)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies what has been the cost of the land settlement to date in the Orange River Colony and the Transvaal.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton.) The issues from loan to 29th April last were £2,185,413 4s. lid., viz., Transvaal £1,070,124 10s. 4d., and Orange River Colony £1,115,288 14s. 7d. (see p.67 of Cd. 2563), but I am not able to give the total cost, as some part of the cost of the Department of Commissioner of Lands is no doubt due to land settlement, and, on the other hand, there must be certain small receipts and repayments.
