HC Deb 20 July 1905 vol 149 c1381
MR. COHEN (Islington, E.)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether the Departmental Committee to consider the practicability of a standard form of accounts being prescribed for local authorities has now been appointed; and whether it has begun to take any evidence on the subject.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. GERALD BALIWJR,) Leeds, Central

The appointment has not yet been made, but I am in communication with the bodies interested in the matter and I hope the arrangements will shortly be completed.

MR. COHEN

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the appointment of this Committee was promised by his predecessor more than six months ago and confirmed by himself a little later?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am aware of that, and the hon. Member has some cause of complaint. I must, however, ask him to have a little patience. There shall be no more delay if I can help it.
