HC Deb 17 July 1905 vol 149 c862
MR. TANKERVILLE CHAMBER-LAYNE (Southampton)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the question of raising the maximum salary of the telegraph clerks at Southampton, in accordance with the regulations governing the classification of telegraphic offices.

(Answered by Lord Stanley.) I have received a petition from the overseers (formerly designated "clerks") at Southampton for higher pay, and I informed them about four months ago that I am unable to comply with their request. I am considering a memorial from the sorting clerks and telegraphists at Southampton for a higher scale, and my decision will be announced to the staff in due course.
