HC Deb 13 July 1905 vol 149 c555
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether, seeing that sorters and telegraphists on attaining the age of twenty-five years are granted an additional increment of 3s. per week by reason of their reaching a marriageable age, and seeing that assistant clerks (new class) at the age specified will have served for a longer period and passed a more severe educational test while performing work of a superior nature, he will consider the advisability of granting a similar increment to assistant clerks (new class).

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY (Mr. VICTOR CAVENDISH,) Derbyshire, W.

The position and pay of the assistant clerks has been most fully considered and a decision thereon arrived at and communicated to heads of Departments, last May. I can see no grounds for reopening the question.
