HC Deb 12 July 1905 vol 149 c380
SIR JOHN LENG (Dundee)

To ask the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he will lay upon the Table of the House a Report confirming the statement that the utility of submarines has been amply demonstrated during the extensive work carried out by them during the last three years, describing the nature of that work; and whether it was such as could only be accomplished by submarines.

(Answered by Mr. Pretyman.) The results of the work carried out by submarine boats are essentially confidential. Since submarines are the only torpedo craft that can approach an enemy in daylight it is evident that no other craft can accomplish the same duties.
