HC Deb 12 July 1905 vol 149 cc395-6
ME. LUNDON (Limerick,. E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if his attention, has been called to Rule 136 (2), (a), (b), (c) of the Commissioners of National Education, Ireland, and will he explain on what grounds the regulations made in them are considered necesary; and will he say whether, when a manager objects to have grown girls taught with grown boys by a master only with no adult female in the room, the Commissioners will persist in forcing this arrangement on him.

MR. WALTER LONG

I have read the rule referred to, the reasons for which are sufficiently shown by the wording of the rule itself. In reply to the latter inquiry, the Commissioners consider it very important that in mixed schools under a master there should be a female teacher also. Rule 86 provides for this.
