§ MR. BURT (Morpeth)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the fact that fifteen European miners had been prosecuted for working on Good Friday in the Jumper's Deep Mine, con- 260 trary to the mining regulations, and to the evidence given that had they refused to work they would probably have been dismissed; and whether, seeing that each of the miners was fined £2, and that the law was not put in operation against the manager of the mine who had ordered the men to work, he proposes to take any action in the matter.
§ MR. LYTTELTONMy attention has already been drawn to the newspaper report of this case. I have asked Lord Selborne for a report upon it, referring him particularly to the points raised in the Question of the hon. Member.
