§ MR. SCHWANN (Manchester, N.)To ask the Secretary of State for India, with reference to the correspondence which has passed between him and the Indian Government on the subject of education of labourers generally in India, and in particular on plantations, whether he has now received the further Reports promised by the Assam and Bengal Governments in 1904; and, if so, will he make them public.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) I have received a reply from the Government of Bengal, which I shall be glad to communicate to the hon. Member. The Chief Commissioner of Assam thinks it advisable to defer dealing with the subject for another year, and will report later on.
