HC Deb 10 July 1905 vol 149 cc94-5
MR. MURPHY (Kerry, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieu tenant of Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners have up to the present time succeeded in reinstating a singly evicted tenant in the county of Kerry, notwithstanding that 411 applications have been sent to them dealing with persons evicted from their homes; and whether he proposes to take any steps to ensure the more effective carrying out of the policy of the Land Act of 1903 in reference to the reinstatement of evicted tenants.

MR. WALTER LONG

I have nothing to add to the replies which I have already given to Questions on this subject.

MR. MURPHY

I have not before asked if the Estates Commissioners have succeeded in reinstating one evicted tenant in Kerry County?

MR. WALTER LONG

I believe I stated in answer to a Question the other day that nineteen such tenants have been, or are in process of being, re-instated by the landlords.

MR. MURPHY

That is not the point. How many have the Estates Commissioners reinstated?

MR. FLAVIN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in the Parliamentary Division I represent, although more than half the land has been sold and there is much vacant land, not a single bit has been purchased by the Estates Commissioners for the purpose of reinstating evicted tenants?

MR. WALTER LONG

I am not aware of it.
