HC Deb 06 July 1905 vol 148 cc1337-8
MR. MULDOON (Donegal, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether any case has arisen in the division of an urban district into wards, or the apportionment of members of the council among such wards, under the provisions of the 57th Section of the Local Government (England and Wales) Act, 1888, and the regulations prescribed thereunder by the Order dated 14th September, 1889, in which a proposal for such purpose formulated by the county council has been opposed by the county district affected; and whether, under such circumstances, it is the practice of the Local Government Board to adopt such proposal in accordance with its powers against the wishes of the county district.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR, Leeds, Central)

I am unable to say whether any case of the kind referred to has arisen. The matter would not come before the Local Government Board, as an Order made by a county council under Section 57 of the Local Government Act, 1888, for either of the purposes mentioned in the Question comes into operation on being finally approved by the council, and there is no appeal to the Board against such an Order.
