HC Deb 04 July 1905 vol 148 c979
MR. WHITLEY

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has taken any steps to give effect to the Report of the Committee on University College Grants; and if he is in a position to state the constitution of the Advisory Committee recommended in the Report.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

The various universities and colleges concerned were invited to comment on the suggestions contained in the Report of the Committee in question. Their replies have only recently been received and are now under consideration. I hope shortly to be able to make an announcement on the subject.

MR. WHITLEY

In view of the advanced position of the financial year, will the right hon. Gentleman give us some opportunity of discussing this matter if he does not intend to carry out the recommendations of the Committee?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

That is a Question which should be addressed to the Prime Minister, concerning as it does the arrangement of the business of the House. But, personally, I should be glad of an opportunity of hearing the opinions of hon. Members on the subject.
