HC Deb 04 July 1905 vol 148 c981
MR. HERBERT SAMUEL (Yorkshire, Cleveland)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he proposes to take any steps to enable highway authorities either to exercise greater control over traction-engine traffic on roads, particularly when weather conditions render the roads specially liable to damage, or to recover from the owners of engines the cost of making good such damage, as recommended by the Departmental Committee on Highways, 1903.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR, Leeds, Central)

Legislation would be necessary to give effect to either of these suggestions, and I cannot hold out any prospect of introducing a Bill on the subject at the present time
