HC Deb 03 July 1905 vol 148 c736
MR. ROCHE (Galway, E.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Lambert Estate, situated in the county of Galway, which includes part of the town of Athenry, is managed by the Lunacy Department of the Lord Chancellor of Ireland; that this estate is mainly agricultural and about being sold to the occupying tenants; and that it has been represented to the Lord Chancellor that the town tenants are anxious to buy at the same time; and whether, in view of the desirability, in the interest of the vendor, that this estate should be sold as a whole, he will represent to the Estates Commissioners the necessity of advancing the whole of the purchase money.

(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) This estate is under the control of the Lord Chancellor during the minority of the owner. The Lord Chancellor has given leave to the receiver to negotiate with the agricultural tenants for the sale to them of their holdings, but has refused an application that the town tenants should be included in the negotiations. The reply to the last inquiry is in the negative. The question there raised is one for the determination of the Estates Commissioners, subject to the review of the Judicial Commissioner.
