I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty what are the number of men, skilled and unskilled, discharged from the various naval establishments since November 1st to date, and the reason for throwing out of employment during the winter months so many.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. PRETYMAN, Suffolk, Wood-bridge)

The numbers of men discharged from the various Naval Establishments since November 1st to date are: Skilled, 759; unskilled, 536; total 1,295; 32 per cent, of these discharges were on reduction; 26 per cent, on account of age limit or physical unfitness; 16 per cent, at their own request; and the remainder on completion of the temporary duties for which they were specially entered, or for misconduct or inefficiency.
