To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he can state what are the precise duties and salary attached to the position of Directress of Needlework under the Commissioners of National Education.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The Directress of Needlework is charged with the general supervision of needlework instruction in national schools. She also examines and judges the specimens of needlework done by King's scholars from the training colleges at the annual examinations of candidates for the position of national teacher and manual instructress, and of pupil teachers, monitors, etc. The salary attached to the position is £150, rising by annual increments of £10 to a maximum of £200 per annum, with travelling and subsistence allowances.
