HC Deb 20 February 1905 vol 141 cc606-7
MR. NANNETTI (Dublin, College Green)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will direct the Commissioner of Police in Dublin to refuse to issue any more new licences for hackney cars during the summer months, so as not to interfere with the regular trade of men who ply their avocation the whole year round, or until such time as from inquiry he finds that the needs of the public require such licences.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM, Dover)

The conditions upon which licences may be granted are specified in Section 2 of the 17 and 18 Viet., cap. 45. The Commissioner has no power to refuse a licence in the manner suggested in the Question.
