HC Deb 20 February 1905 vol 141 c588
DR. AMBROSE

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will use his influence with the Congested Districts Board with a view to inducing that Board to start relief works in Achill Island, in order to enable the inhabitants of the island to tide over the distress caused by the failure of the crops.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The Congested Districts Board is not authorised to undertake works for the relief of distress. This is the function of the Guardians of the Westport Union, who have prepared schemes for the purpose and will, I understand, submit them to the Local Government Board in the course of a few days.
