HC Deb 09 August 1905 vol 151 c799
MR. HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the fact that the Australian Commonwealth have placed a duty of 3d. per pound on all price lists, catalogues, etc., entering Australia through the Post Office from the United Kingdom; and whether, seeing that trade is hampered by this impost, and in view of the representations of merchants as to the annoyance caused by the regulation, arrangements can be made for the payment of the duty in this country.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton.) My attention has frequently been called to this matter, as I stated in reply to a Question on February 23rd † last. Arrangements have already been made for the payment of the duty in this country through the Agents-General for the Australian States.
