HC Deb 07 August 1905 vol 151 cc340-1
MR. BENN (Devonport)

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that since the opening of the engine room to boys the Navy engine-room artificers have been called upon to give instruction to such boys without † See (4) Debates, cxlvi., 270. receiving, as is the custom in other branches of the service, instructional pay for such teaching; and what steps, if any, he proposes to take to remedy this alleged grievance.

(Answered by Mr. Pretyman.) The question of granting extra pay to men employed on instructional duty in the service generally is under consideration, and in the meanwhile it has been decided to suspend the grant of fresh instructional allowances.
