MURPHY (Kerry, E.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if the Land Commissioners can give any explanation of the reductions granted by them on first-term and second-term fair rent applications for the year ended 31st March, 1905, in comparison with previous years; and how it occurs that rents fixed on the reports of their own valuers, but which do not come before the Court, are considerably lower than those fixed by the Court on the reports of the same valuers.
§ MR. WALTER LONGThe percentages of reduction in rents fixed by the Sub-Commissioners or, on appeal, by the Land Commissioners, vary with the varying circumstances of cases, holdings, and districts. The rents so fixed are judicially determined, and it is not competent to me to ask the Commissioners to give any explanation of their action.
