HC Deb 02 August 1905 vol 150 cc1332-3
MR. CULLINAN (Tipperary, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the approximate date from which South African horse disease recently appeared in Great Britain; the number of Army horses affected; the districts in which the disease has been and is at present; the number of horses slaughtered; and the number of stables closed, and shows and race meetings stopped, in Great Britain because of the outbreak of this disease.

MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER

Epizootic lymphangitis appeared in Great Britain in August, 1902. Up to July 31st, 1905, there have been 533 cases of Army horses affected, and of these 419 have been slaughtered. Detailed information as to the military districts in which the cases have occurred will be given in a Return recently promised in another place. As regards the last part of the Question, the actions referred to do not fall within the province of the Secretary of State for War.

MR. CULLINAN

Does the right hon. Gentleman deny the facts set out in this Question?

MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER

I know nothing about them.

MR. CULLINAN

What Department is responsible then?
