MR. J. P. FARRELL

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether, with a view to encouraging scientific training of agriculturists in county Longford and the employment of a permanent agricultural and veterinary instructor, the Department of Agriculture would increase their present contribution to the Agricultural County Committee of county Longford.

(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) The Department are prepared to increase their contribution to county Longford by paying the salary of an agricultural instructor when a qualified person is available for the position. There is no suitable person to be had at present; but the Department have a number of young men in training at the Royal College of Science with a view to their qualifying for appointments of this nature.
