HC Deb 13 April 1905 vol 145 c69
MR. BENN (Devonport)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board, in regard to the Unemployed Relief Expenditure, London, whether any £ the borough councils adopted the suggestion of his predecessor to aid the fund out of the rates; and, if not, does he still propose to include in the forthcoming measure rate-aid for the relief of the unemployed.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

I understand that none of the borough councils have contributed towards the funds of the Central Unemployed Committee, and that no application has been made to them by the Committee for this purpose. I cannot undertake to state beforehand what may be the proposals in the measure referred to in the Question.
