HC Deb 12 April 1905 vol 144 c1393
MR. SOARES (Devonshire, Barnstaple)

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether the duties on Indian silk goods entering France are higher than the duties on similar goods from China or Japan; and whether any negotiations have taken place on the subject.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) Silk goods of Chinese or Japanese origin, so far as they are not on the free list, are admitted into France at lower rates than are applicable to similar goods of Indian origin. The Answer to the second Question is in the negative.
