MAJOR JAMESON

To ask the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether he will state the cost of the lighthouses at St. Catherine's, Dungeness, the Wolf, and the Fastnet complete.

(Answered by Mr. Bonar Law.) I have received the following information from the Trinity House:—

St. Catherine's:— £
The original building showing an oil light was purchased in 1840 for 7,855
The cost of installing the electric light in 1888 amounted to 12,767
Total £20,622
Dungeness:— £
The cost of the two new lighthouses and fog signal recently completed is 21,138
To which should be added the value of old buildings worked in 3,000
Total £24,138
Wolf:—
The cost of this lighthouse was £63,426
I am informed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights that the account for the Fastnet is not yet closed, but that the approximate cost is estimated at £83,500.
