§ CAPTAIN NORTONI beg to ask the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he can state whether the authorities at Enfield Small Arms Factory will consider the advisability of employing men in overhauling machinery that has become defective in consequence of the pressure of work which took place during the South African War, with a view to preventing further discharges.
§ MR. BROMLEY DAVENPORTThe suggestion which is contained in the hon. and gallant Member's Question has not been, and will not be, lost sight of. But the class of labour required for such repairs is in many cases not the same as that which may have to be dispensed with, and, as I have already explained, it is not possible to provide work in excess of the money available.
