HC Deb 19 May 1904 vol 135 cc356-7
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the fact that the cubicle system prevails in Chinese houses, Hong-Kong, and that each house usually accommodates two or three hundred lodgers, will he state whether buildings have yet been completed near Kowloon for the isolation of the Chinese coolies who are awaiting shipment for the Transvaal; and will he say how many coolies are awaiting shipment.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. LYTTELTON,) Warwick and Leamington

I have no further information beyond what I have given in replying to the hon. Member's Question on 9th May.‡

MR. WEIR

Are the coolies now occupying these cubicles?

MR. LYTTELTON

My answer covers that.
