HC Deb 12 May 1904 vol 134 cc1171-2
MR. J. H. LEWIS

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state what is the estimated total amount of abatements on account of income-tax to which persons paying income-tax are entitled (whether they claim abatement or not) during the year ending the 31st March, 1904.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY (Mr. VICTOR CAVENDISH,) Derbyshire, W.

There are no data available on which to estimate the abatements to which taxpayers, who make no claim, are entitled. Particulars for the year to 31st March, 1902, as to the numbers of persons claiming abatement, and of the amounts of income relieved by abatement in the several classes, will be found on page 213 of the last Annual Report of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue (Cd. 1717). The same particular cannot yet be given for any later year.
