I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if he will state how many days last year the "Jackal" was engaged in preparing for and performing cruises to the neighbourhood of Norway and the Faroes Islands for the purpose of taking temperatures of the sea; and what remuneration was paid to the captain for this work in addition to his naval pay.

The number of days was forty-nine, durum which three cruises were made, for each of which cruises the Captain received £25.
