HC Deb 09 May 1904 vol 134 c744
SIR THOMAS DEWAR (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that circular letters associated with lottery drawings, conducted at the Fritz Dorge Bank, 16, Zoltan Street, Budapest, were on the 23rd April last posted in London to persons in the United Kingdom; and, having regard to the effect of such circulars, will he instruct His Majesty's Consul-General at Budapest to institute some inquiry with a view to ascertain the name and address of the agent in this country by whom these operations are conducted.

(Answered by Earl Percy.) We are informed that some complaints have been made to the General Post Office on the subject of the receipt of letters of this nature, and the question whether inquiries can be usefully made in the direction indicated is under consideration.
