Member for Chorley, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, when does he expect the road from the Duke of York's Steps to Charing Cross will be completed; and whether he would give directions for a temporary footpath from The Mall into Charing Cross to be available for pedestrians in the meantime.
(Answered by Lord Balcarres.) It is not possible to fix a date for the completion of the road until the plans of the Admiralty extension, now under consideration, have been determined. Should it be possible to open a footpath without danger to pedestrians during building operations the First Commissioner will be glad to consider it.
