HC Deb 04 May 1904 vol 134 cc380-1
MR. SKEWES-COX (Surrey, Kingston)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if the Lords of the Admiralty have declined the payment of a commuted allowance to Paymasters-in-Chief of the Royal Navy similar to that granted to certain secretaries to Commanders-in-Chief and other officers employed at the Admiralty of inferior rank; and, if so, will he state the grounds upon which such refusal is based, and whether the subject can be reconsidered.

* THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. PRETYMAN,) Suffolk, Woodbridge

If the hon. Member is referring to the commuted allowance for servants, the reply is that applications for this allowance have been refused as the officers were in receipt of lodging money, the payment of which, except in unusual circumstances, covers the cost of attendance. I see no grounds for reconsidering the subject.
