HC Deb 03 May 1904 vol 134 cc261-2
MR. FFRENCH

I beg to ask the Postmaster - General whether he is aware that the electoral division of Templetown has no post office, and no delivery at all from Saturday until Monday, although it contains an area of 5,000 acres and about 1,000 inhabitants; and, if so, whether he will look into the matter with a view to provide postal facilities for that division.

LORD STANLEY

The question of opening a post office and affording a Sunday delivery at Temple town has already been under consideration, but, as the cost of the postal service in the district is very high as compared with the amount of correspondence, the desired facilities cannot, I regret to say, be provided at the cost of the revenue. There is reason, however, to think that the residents are prepared to guarantee the cost, and a communication was sent some weeks ago acquainting them with the amount it would be necessary for them to guarantee.
