HC Deb 22 March 1904 vol 132 c399
MR. HAYDEN (Roscommon, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will explain why Mr. Newell, Resident Magistrate, Ballinasloe, has refused a gun licence to Mr. Thomas Mulvey, a farmer living near Thomastown, Athlone.

MR. WYNDHAM

No application has been received from Mr. Thomas Mulvey. But one was received from Mr. John Mulvey. He refused to take out a ten shilling Excise licence, and hence the Resident Magistrate had no authority to issue to him a licence under the Peace Preservation Act.

MR. REDDY

Was it not refused because the applicant declined to act as Public Prosecutor in a certain case?

[No answer was returned.]
