HC Deb 17 March 1904 vol 131 c1384
MR. HERBERT SAMUEL (Yorkshire, Cleveland)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that local authorities are now authorised to borrow money for the purposes of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts, to be repaid during a period of eighty years, but that the Public Works Loan Commissioners are not able to lend money for such purposes unless it be repaid within fifty years, he will introduce legislation to remedy this inconsistency.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) I am not prepared to propose legislation for extending the maximum period of loans by the Public Works Loan Commissioners.
