HC Deb 11 March 1904 vol 131 c856
MASTER OF ELIBANK

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the regulations as to officers on the active list, in receipt of full pay, becoming prospective candidates for Parliament, or taking part in political meetings.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Arnold-Forster.) Officers on full pay who are candidates for Parliament must, if on the staff, resign their appointments; if not on the staff there is no regulation to prevent their standing for Parliament. Further, under paragraph 420 of the King's Regulations, officers are forbidden to institute or take part in any meetings, demonstrations, or processions for Party or political purposes, in barracks, quarters, camps, or their vicinity; and under no circumstances whatever will they attend such meetings, whenever held, in uniform.
