HC Deb 09 March 1904 vol 131 c571
MR. MARKHAM

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether an Excise duty is levied on dynamite manufactured by the De Beers Company entering the Transvaal equal to the coast duty levied on British manufactured dynamite.

MR. LYTTELTON

No, Sir.

MR. MARKHAM

The right hon. Gentleman the Member for West Birmingham, replying to many Questions of this sort a year ago, always replied that the matter was under consideration. As this monopoly has now been in force for eighteen months, can the right hon. Gentleman not arrive at a decision with regard to it.

MR. LYTTELTON

The conditions have changed. The question of railway rates affects the matter very closely.
