HC Deb 09 March 1904 vol 131 c565
MR. RANDLES (Cumberland, Cockermouth)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether there is any law in force in the Transvaal to prevent the importation of persons of any class or colour; and, if not, would he consider with Lord Milner the desirability of legislation for the Transvaal on lines similar to those proposed in the Government measure for preventing undesirable alien immigration into the United Kingdom.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton.) There is no law in force for preventing the importation of persons of any class or colour into the Transvaal, but the Peace Preservation Ordinance affords opportunity of controlling it. Lord Milner proposes later on to pass an Immigration Restriction Ordinance on the lines of the Cape and Natal Acts.
