HC Deb 03 March 1904 vol 131 c51
MR. PIERPOINT (Warrington)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, when a foreign potentate visits Gibraltar or Malta, he and his staff, or any of them, are allowed to inspect any parts of the fortifications which we do not usually show to ordinary visitors; and whether the Governors of Gibraltar and Malta have instructions on the matter.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. ARNOLD-FORSTER,) Belfast, W.

The Sovereign of any friendly country will be gladly welcomed at Gibraltar or Malta, but it is obvious that such a visitor could not be asked to inspect any portion of the fortifications which it is considered necessary to withhold from the inspection of foreigners, nor is there any reason to anticipate that any such request is likely to be made.
