HC Deb 03 March 1904 vol 131 cc45-6
MR. SLOAN

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, if he can state the number of men belonging to the Royal Irish Constabulary who have been dismissed from 1st April, 1897, to 1st September, 1900, and the number from 1st September, 1900, to 1st February, 1904.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) In the first-mentioned period the number of men dismissed was 101 and the number discharged for misconduct 108; total 209. In the second period the number dismissed was 129 and the number discharged seventy-five; total 204. The statistics of other punishments for indiscipline in the force show a very considerable reduction in the period that has elapsed since the present Inspector-General assumed command on the 1st September, 1900, as compared with the corresponding period prior to that date.
