HC Deb 29 June 1904 vol 137 c8
MR. LOUIS SINCLAIR (Essex, Romford)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he intends to carry out the promise made by the ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer last year to appoint a Departmental Committee to consider the practice with regard to income- tax payment; and, if so, whether the question of co-operative societies' exemption will be considered by the Committee.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) A Committee was appointed two months ago, and the names of the members and the terms of reference have been publicly notified on several occasions. It is for the Committee to consider whether any questions relating to the position of co-operative societies come within their reference.
