To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent will the amended drawback on tobacco stalks proposed under the schedule to the Finance Bill, increase the net sum of two shillings and seven pence now obtained by the manufacturer for a pound of stalks on which drawback is claimed.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) The drawback obtainable under the existing law in respect of tobacco stalks when ground will be increased on an average by about 4d. per pound, or slightly more, under the provisions of the Finance Bill.
