HC Deb 16 June 1904 vol 136 cc279-80
MR. MURPHY (Kerry, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners or the Congested Districts Board have made, or propose to make, any effort to purchase the portion of the Kenmare Estate that comes within the definition of a congested estate, having regard to the fact that the landlord has in writing expressed his readiness to sell, and the tenants are ready to buy at a fair price.

MR. WYNDHAM

No application has yet been made to the Estates Commissioners or the Congested Districts Board for the purchase of that portion of the estate mentioned.

MR. MURPHY

Are we to understand that where a landlord signifies his willingness to sell and the tenants are ready to buy neither the Estates Commissioners nor the Congested Districts Board will take any action.

MR. WYNDHAM

Nothing is simpler, if the facts are as stated, for the parties to take the necessary steps.
