HC Deb 13 June 1904 vol 135 c1479
MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether, having regard to the statements made in public by the First Lord as to the loss of Submarine A1, he will now undertake to lay upon the Table the Report of the Committee of Inquiry.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. PRETYMAN,) Suffolk, Woodbridge

All Reports of Courts of Inquiry are confidential, and it is not considered desirable to depart from this principle, especially in the case of a submarine. Any information that can be made public can be given to the House during the discussion on Navy Estimates.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

I beg to give notice that on the Navy Estfmates I will call attention to the withholding of the Report, and the consequent danger of incorrect and unfortunate impressions being produced.

MR. GIBSON BOWLES (Lynn Regis)

Will there be any Court-martial?

MR. PRETYMAN

No, Sir, I believe not.
