HC Deb 13 June 1904 vol 135 c1476
MR. SWIFT MACNEILL (Donegal, S.)

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether His Highness the Amir of Afghanistan has refused to accept the £40,000 per annum which is paid him in consideration of his good feeling towards the Indian Government; if so, whether a pacific mission will be sent to Afghanistan, on the same lines as that sent to the Dalai Lama at Lhasa, to ascertain the cause of the Amir's altered attitude to the Indian Government; and, in the event of his persistent refusal of the subsidy, what steps will be taken to compel his acceptance.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) The Answer to the Question is in the negative.
