HC Deb 09 June 1904 vol 135 cc1218-9
MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the latest information he can give in regard to the financial position of the Transvaal; and what are the figures of actual revenue and expenditure of the current year up to date, and the estimated revenue and expenditure for the balance of the current year.

MR. LYTTELTON

The latest estimate for the current year ending 30th; June, was received by me in a telegram from Lord Milner, dated 4th June, and gives Transvaal revenue £4,430,000; Transvaal local expenditure, with Supplementary Estimates, £3,660,000; surplus £770,000. But this surplus is entirely absorbed by the deficit on the Intercolonial Budget. I have not the actual figures up to date; the financial position will be shown in greater detail in the Papers which I am presenting shortly.
