HC Deb 01 June 1904 vol 135 c496
MR. BRYCE (Aberdeen, S.)

To ask the hon. Member for Chorley, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether the attention of His Majesty's Government has been called to the proposal made to destroy some of the best preserved parts of the extremely interesting ancient walls (dating from the time of King Edward I.) of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed; and whether they will take any such steps as may lie within their power to endeavour to secure the preservation of this almost unique historical monument.

(Answered by Lord Balcarres.) The First Commissioner has been in communication with the municipal authorities and hopes to arrive at an arrangement with them for the preservation of the walls in question.
