HC Deb 29 July 1904 vol 139 cc88-9
MR. MOON (St. Pancras, N.)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the circular letter sent to officers on probation for the Army Pay Department which modifies the conditions of service hitherto prevailing, he is now in a position to announce the constitution of the new Army Finance Department, and the position of the officers of the Army Pay Department in relation to it.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary ArnoldForster.) The circular letter referred to does not modify the conditions of service, but merely draws attention to the fact that in future, under the new organisation, the duties to be performed by officers of the Army Pay Department will be somewhat extended, and will include accounting for stores as well as cash. I am not yet in a position to announce the constitution of the new Army Accounts Department; but there is no intention of altering the status of the officers of the Army Pay Department.
